Mngazana Adventures is situated in the beautiful Madakeni Village in the Transkei, we are passionate about sharing our absolutely precious little world with other people, there are few places on earth like this one and what better way to experience all it has to offer than on horseback? Your hosts have been riding and working with horses for years and sharing our love for these incredible animals is a treat!
Our unique horse trails will take you through vastly different terrain throughout our little village. As you ride over hills, little mud homes are nestled in the coves. An array of colourful cattle, donkeys, pigs and chickens grazing and sunbathing dotted all over the village ensures there is never a dull moment for viewing and spotting calves, piglets, goat kids and other animal babies is always a refreshing sight.
What makes this trail so unique is exploring the notorious rolling hills and untouched mangrove forest along the beautiful, winding Mngazana River which is the biggest mangrove forest in the Southern Hemisphere being the only home to all 3 species of mangroves including the red (Rhiophora mangle), black (Avicennia germinans) and white (Laguncularia recemosa), walk between these uniquely knobbly trees while trying to spot the over 30 species of crabs including a new discovery of the ‘pearl white’ crab discovered in the mangroves. This is a birdwatchers paradise flourishing with bird life such as Fish eagles, Mangrove king fisher and Lilac breasted roller to name a few, and what better way than to view them while on the back of a horse.
You will experience a rainbow of beautiful friendly faces and a welcoming Molo (Hello) from the lovely Amapondo people. Our horses are fit, flourishing and in very good condition. They are safe and sturdy for beginners while still being fresh and fun for advanced riders offering a fast pace and exciting experience! We have different trail lengths on offer where one can see many different views with deep gorges and cliff tops that plunge into the ocean ensuring that this is not just an ordinary trail but an unforgettable adventure!
