OVERVIEW

This safari tour takes you to South Africa’s main attractions, from Soweto to Swaziland, Cape Town and the Blyde River Canyon. The iconic, incredibly diverse Kruger NP is where you have the opportunity and plenty time to see the Big 5. The ”rainbow nation” is adorned with magnificent landscapes, towering mountains, 3000 km of coast, deserts, geological wonders, flora, fauna and a rich ethnic, cultural and historical past. All optional activities will be offered to you at our preferential rates.

Day 1

Johannesburg City -Soweto- Sandton + Apartheid museum

This afternoon you visit Soweto with an experienced local guide (optional). You shall also visit Soweto township, Freedom Square and Hector Peterson Memorial.

A walking tour and drive will take you to and past various points of interest. Home of Mandela, Winnie Mandela and the FNB stadium. Home to the late former president, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Then it’s the Apartheid Museum which illustrates the rise and fall of South Africa’s era of segregation and oppression, and is an absolute must-see. Time permitting, Lilliesleaf, which was the farm used secretly by African National Congress activists in the 1960s and was the location where many prominent African National Congress leaders were arrested, leading to the Rivonia Trial. Nowadays Liliesleaf Farm is a Museum and world-famous Heritage Site, attracting many visitors annually. Nelson Mandela was captured here which lead to the famous Rivonia trial.

Day 2

Blyde River Canyon & the Panoramic route (the world’s most beautiful)

You depart for the beautiful Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga. You follow the scenic Panorama Route and admire God’s Window, Three Rondavels, Blyde River Canyon, Long Tom Pass, the battlefields, Bourkes Luck Potholes, and the various waterfalls of the Canyon. Pilgrim’s Rest is an authentic historical village dating from the first South African gold rush and now a National Monument. Time permitting, go for a swim in the beautiful MacMac pools to cool off. Accommodation is close or on the edge of the canyon or escarpment.

Day 3

Kruger National Park safaris

You arrive in the late morning at the famous Kruger National Park and begin your safari into this bush veld wonderland. Enjoy a light lunch from a view point on the banks of the mighty Sabie River. Continue your game drive and around 3 pm check in at Lower Sabie camp. At 4:30 pm you begin your exciting late afternoon/sunset game drive with a professional game ranger. The professional game ranger will enthrall you with stories of the African bush and point out the Big 5 and other rare and endangered species (safari included).

Day 4

Kruger National Park safaris

Early morning safari bush walk (included. You get to experience the Kruger on foot, the rangers will show you all sorts of amazing things such as plants, insects, tracks, and offer superb information on all of them. You encounter large and small mammals on your walk and get close enough to them to experience these ultimate encounters. Return to camp for a hearty breakfast.

For the rest of the day you will witness the African Savannah and wildlife in all its splendor with your private guide.

Later enjoy dinner overlooking the Sabie river. If accommodation is outside the Kruger Park, a full day 4×4 safari will replace the 2 x 3 hour game drives.

Day 5

Kruger national Park safaris

This morning head into the bush veld at sunrise and soak in the African Savanna whilst discovering the flora and fauna of this, one of the worlds finest parks.

Enjoy the day safariing and/or relaxing around the camp pool.

This evening at 08:00 you depart on a nocturnal safari, searching for those animals that come out mostly at night.

One great advantage with staying in the park is that you get to do and see what many outside the park cannot.

Day 6

Kingdom of Swaziland & Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary its delights

This morning you leave early and enjoy your last safari before leaving the park. Breakfast on route. You then depart for the Kingdom of Swaziland (passport required). The landscapes are very similar to those of Switzerland. You can visit the Ngwenya Glass Factory and the oldest mine in the world. Time dependent you can visit a fantastic example of San (Bushman) rock art created by indigenous people that once roamed Southern Africa alone. Or you can visit Swaziland’s oldest game reserve (you would then need to prioritize your activities). At Mbabane, capital of Swaziland, you will admire the Royal Palace, Parliament, and the Kings Mausoleum all from your vehicle. You overnight in the Ezulwini Valley which is the Kingdom’s main tourist area offering a wealth of attractions. Ezulwini means ‘place of heaven’, and the valley that bears this name certainly has its share of hedonistic delights.

Day 7

Swaziland to Cape Town via the Lowveld

This morning you can visit the Mantenga Cultural Village. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the people in the village and can do so by grinding maize, plaiting mountain grass or joining in the Swazi song and dance.

You can then visit the Ezulwini Valley craft market and candle factory or the eclectic ”House on fire”. You then depart Swaziland through the beautiful Southern Mpumalanga province.

On the way you can admire the oldest and best preserved sequence of volcanic and sedimentary rocks in the world. Known as the Genesis of Life, the Makhonjwa Mountains are to become UNESCO World Heritage Site. You continue to O R Tambo Airport for your journey to Cape Town. You shall arrive in Cape Town in the late afternoon. Upon your arrival, we will greet and meet you, chat about your tour, go through the remainder of your itinerary and organize any preferences you desire. Time to stroll along the Sea Point promenade at sunset, check in and visit the V & A Waterfront for dinner perhaps.

Day 8

Cape Winelands, Stellenbosch and/or Whale Coast & Hermanus (seasonal)

Today you will drive at Stellenbosch, a fertile area where wheat, vines, and oak trees quickly replace the giraffes, elephants, Hottentot, and Khoisan peoples. Today, Stellenbosch is known for its beautiful varied architecture, renowned wines, and university where the language of instruction is still mainly Afrikaans. You can visit a museum, a historical shop, and partake in a cellar tour before travelling over the beautiful Hels Hoogte Pass on your way to Franschoek. You then can visit the Huguenot Museum. You can also visit an exceptional boutique wine farm to taste local vintage wine including a Pinotage which is South Africa’s own unique cultivar. Next, at Paarl, you will stop in front of Mandela’s statue at the entrance to the prison from which he was liberated in 1990. The Taal monument, dedicated to the Afrikaans language, is the world’s only monument to a language.

Day 9

Robben Island Relax and/or explore

Today you can explore, relax and partake in one or two of many optional activities and visits available. We shall offer them to you at our preferential rates. These include a Helicopter flip over Table Mountain, a Guided hike up Table Mountain, an authentic African dinner of many culinary dishes from across the continent, accompanied by dance, music and participatory drumming, Robben Island and more..

Day 10

Cape of Good Hope, Peninsula, Boat Cruise, Penguins & Groot Constantia

This region is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its floral diversity. You will follow the West coast via Clifton with a stop at Maiden’s Cove to enjoy a magnificent view of the Twelve Apostles and Camps Bay. We will continue along to Hout Bay, a charming little town where we enjoy a cruise to Duiker Island, home to the world’s largest fur seal colony. The scenic Chapman’s Peak Pass offers breathtaking scenery. Next you will be visiting the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve which is where the cold Atlantic waters meet the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. This famous landmark was named by the early Portuguese mariners. Journeying down to the False Bay coast, we will visit the well known Boulder’s beach, home to Africa’s largest land based jackass penguin colony. We will finish our day with a visit to Groot Constantia, South Africa’s oldest Cape Dutch manor house.

Day 11

Cape Town, Table Mountain, West Coast, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Surrounding Areas

Today you can visit Cape Town, it’s historical places, parks, Dutch East Indian Garden, Castle, South African Museum, Malay quarter, District 6, and Green market square. Before noon you can visit the noon gun in action on the slopes of Signal Hill. It is the world’s oldest canon still in action. You can then visit Kirstenbosh National Botanical Garden, the only botanical garden situated in a world heritage site; it has more endemic plant species than any other in the world (Fynbos). Later in the afternoon, you can drive along the West coast towards Blouberg where you can enjoy a “postcard” view of Table Mountain, Robben Island, and Table Bay.

Day 12

Morning activity and departure (optional activities at our preferential rates)

Transfer to the airport for your air transport home.

Depending on your departure time, various activities can be arranged. All optional activities will be offered to you at our preferential rates, discounted at around 20%. They include: Helicopter flips, Boat cruises, Shark cage diving, Whale cruises, Township tours and many more.

Like Robben Island, Table mountain, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa or even the Two Oceans Aquarian.
