This tour will afford you the luxury to explore the diversity that this beautiful country has to offer, including a game drive in the Garden routes best game reserve. You spend the night on a luxury ostrich farm in the Great Karoo. A night in the picturesque coastal town of Mossel. A night at the famous Knysna Lagoon. At the Tsitsikamma NP we walk amongst huge Yellow wood’s and cross the Storms River mouth via a suspension bridge. Both Eastern and Western Cape provinces are visited on this tour.

Day 1 – Route 62 & Oudtshoorn in the Karoo

We leave the Cape and drive through the Huguenot Tunnel, Africa’s longest tunnel. Wine tasting on the banks of the beautiful Breede valley where the first French Huguenots settled and commenced the wine making industry, famous in this region. We finally arrive at Barrydale on the boundary of the Overberg and Klein Karoo. This charming town offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, where we relax and enjoy a light lunch at a local restaurant.

In the early afternoon we travel towards Oudtshoorn on Route 62 via Ladismith and Calitzdorp.

Upon arrival in Oudtshoorn we visit an ostrich farm and view the famous “feather palaces”

We arrive at our ostrich working farm/guesthouse and enjoy a well deserved break whilst watching a ”famous” Karoo sunset. Aperitif perhaps!

A hearty home cooked 3 course dinner at the farm’s restaurant awaits, time now to study the solar system, it’s well known that the Karoo offers the best star gazing in the Southern Hemisphere, if not the world.

Day 2 – Cango Caves, Big 5 Safari & Mossel bay on the Garden Route

This morning after an English breakfast we visit the Cango caves where a knowledgeable and accredited Caves guide will take us on a tour of the caves, a series of underground tunnels and galleries with impressive limestone formations.

Then we take the classic Robinson Pass of the Southern Cape with beautiful sweeping curves and superb views around every corner. Arriving in Mossel bay we visit the Bartholomeus Diaz museum complex. Bartholomeus Diaz landed here 1488 and started the first nautical “post office” system. Then we explore caves where the Xhoisan (Strandloper) sheltered in these middens and lived almost uniquely on the abundant marine life along the coast.

Continuing south we reach the Botlierskop a renowned private game reserve, for a thrilling 3 hour 4×4 safari with a professional ranger.

Thereafter returning to Mossel bay with dinner and accommodation almost on the beach.

Day 3 – Tsitsikamma National Park and Garden Route

This morning we make our way along the Garden route passing along towering mountains, fresh water lakes, estuaries and the beautiful Indian ocean. We eventually cross the the border into the Eastern Cape and turn off at the Tsitsikamma National Park where we will walk amongst huge Yellow wood trees and cross the Storms River mouth via a suspension bridge…beautiful scenery and thrills guaranteed.

The famous Bloukrans Bridge offers the world’s highest bungee jump.

Next we pass through Plettenberg Bay, a small chic tourist town with lagoons and great beaches.

Returning to Knysna. Dinner at a restaurant of our choice. Sample the famous Knysna oysters perhaps!

Day 4 – Garden Route, Southern Cape to Cape Town

Before leaving on our journey home we admire the view of the “Heads” which is formed by two cliffs creating a narrow passage at the entrance of the lagoon.

We pass through the ancient indigenous forests which was and possibly still is, home to the last of the forest elephants.

On our way to Cape Town we stop at various beautiful view points, passes and places of interest like the famous Aloe factory where you will be given a tour and demonstration. An opportunity to purchase these holistic products. Then onto Swellendam, South Africa’s 3rd oldest town with wonderful Cape Dutch architecture. Here we visit the old Drosdy, which was built by the Dutch East India Company in 1747 to serve as residence and official headquarters for the Landdrost (Magistrate)

We now continue through wheat and canola fields till we reach the last mountain climb, up and over the Sir Lowrys Pass with a last view stop looking over False bay towards Table mountain.

Arrival in Cape Town where we say our goodbyes.
